BAAA’s Start the 2017 Track and Field Year Off in Church!
- Details
The Bahamas Association of Athletics Association (BAAA’s) hosted its Annual Church Service on Sunday past at the Holy Family Catholic Church located on Robinson and Claridge Roads.
A number of persons attended this years’ service which included representatives of Bahamas Association of Certified Officials (BACO) including newly elected president Ray Hepburn, athletes, parents and coaches. Representatives from Star Trackers Track and Field Club also attended Holy Family in order to start their year worshipping together in the House of the Lord.
In attendance of note were four presidents of the BAAA’s which included three past presidents namely, Mr. Desmond Bannister, Mr. Alpheus ‘Hawk’ Finlayson and Mr. Foster Dorsett. The group was headed by current President, Mrs. Rosamunde Carey.
Following the Church service, a well-attended luncheon was held at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel. Remarks were given by President Carey and also Alpheus ‘Hawk’ Finlayson.
President Carey outlined some of the plans for the BAAA’s for the upcoming season. During her address she also thanked all for attending and for their continued support; Carey also admonished all to come on board to assist in making 2017 a great success as it relates to track and field.
Finlayson gave an overview of the BAAA’s for the past 65 years of existence; he also spoke of the presidency of past BAAA’s presidents. Highlighting Finlayson's address was a wonderful review of the legacy of the late Thomas A. Robinson. Finlayson’s contribution was very informative; it was a pleasure to hear someone speak about track and field in earlier years.
Following the activities, Bahamas Athletics was pleased to speak with the administrator of Star Trackers Track Club, Mrs. Laura Pratt-Charlton and also BAAA’s past President and President of T-Bird Flyers, Foster Dorsett.
“Star Trackers Track Club decided to start the New Year off in fellowship and it was an awesome experience in Holy Family as well as in the company of the BAAA’s executives and members. We thought it only fitting to bring in our competition season and allow the organization and members to get a good spiritual blessing,” says Pratt-Charlton.
Dorsett was very pleased to see four presidents attending; he also enjoyed the service. “The service was nice and Canon paid tribute to the BAAA’s accomplishments over the years and he hoped in the future, the BAAA’s would continue on this positive track.”
Bahamas Athletics attended the luncheon and from the amount of persons in attendance at both the Church service and luncheon, our opinion is that 2017 track year looks very promising.
It was a pleasure to see the comradery amongst the attendees.
