Bahamas Association of Certified Officials (BACO) – Certifies 21!

General Secretary (Vanessa Wilson-Thompson and her team were pleased to host a certification training for track and field officials. The event according to Wilson-Thompson, had some challenges which included the passing of Hurricane Matthew but despite the challenges, the course ended with some 21 persons becoming certified.

“It was a great and awesome learning experience! It was very tedious and strenuous but nonetheless, the officials persevered.”

The group that met every Friday and Saturday for a period of five weeks ended the program feeling very confident and knowledgeable with regards to their officiating duties. “This program is expected to cause the officials to be more trained and confident in their decisions,” says a proud General Secretary.

The most thrilling and proud aspect of the workshop was who conducted the training; The Bahamas’s very own Stephanie Taylor was the illustrious instructor.

According to Wilson-Thompson, they were very proud to have a Bahamian as the instructor. “It is always a privilege and a pleasure to have your own teaching you; we were happy to use our local talent.”

Overall, it seems the officials were very excited and enjoyed the program immensely.

General Secretary was very grateful to her President for his vision and goal to extend the training to the Family Island which would result in more persons becoming certified.
