Athletes say Thanks

Several of Team Bahamas members who competed at the Rio Olympics took time to say thanks for the support and love received. Read what some had to share on social media.

Shaunae Miller (gold-women’s 400m)
“God has just been so amazing to me in my track career thus far. This entire season has been a big blessing to me. From getting three personal records in the 100, 200, and 400m, to getting a national (200m) record, to becoming an Olympic Champion. God is so amazing. He has tested my faith for years and not once did I ever question Him or give up hope in Him. God's timing is always the best timing. You just have to trust and believe his plan. Special shout out to my parents for all the love and support they've given me throughout the years, my spiritual mother for all the prayers and prophecies that came to past, my coaches Gary Evans and Lance Brauman for all the hard work and preparation they put in for me to achieve this, The Bahamas for all the support, I love you guys so much and last but not least, all my fans who have supported me throughout the years.
You guys are the reason I enjoy what I do. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do something.
Finally, everyone is talking about the fall but truly and honestly it wasn't intentional. I ran my heart out from the very beginning to the very end playing the game of catch me if you can. It sacrificed dipping below 49 seconds but it got me the gold and the pain was worth the price. But in it all, I was victorious and I give God all the thanks and praise for it. I always tell myself "If God doesn't have something for you, you're not getting it. But when God has something for you, no man can take it away.
Thank you all for the support! What an amazing Olympic experience this has been for me.
I'm an Olympic Champion!!!!!!”

Leevan Sands (men’s triple jump)

“Today didn't go the way I expected it to but I thank God for giving me another chance to represent my country once again for the fourth time! Four years ago, I was taken off on a stretcher with my right knee sitting up in my thigh, but today I walked off strong with my head high.
Of course I am a little disappointed with my results because I've sacrificed so much and worked extremely hard. But we all know that disappointments are a part of the Journey. It's not stopping here, I refuse to give up! The road to greatness will continue.
Love you Bahamas and my Auburn family. Thank you for the love and support!”

Shavez Hart (men’s 100m and 200)

“Not the Olympic debut I had anticipated, this was by far one of the most trying years for me. Thank you for all the love and support you guys, now it's time to regroup and get ready for the next task!
242 to the world!”

Lanece Clarke (women’s 4x400m-national record)

“Just when I thought I had no more tears left to cry, I shed a tear for our Men's 4x400m Relay Bronze Medal Team. They gave their all, fought a good fight and in the end were medalist. I am proud of them all but most of all, I am more than proud of the women’s 4x400m relay team. You ladies were extraordinarily phenomenal.
Two of the ladies (including myself) walked away as "first time Olympians" and as a team, we walked away as being the eleventh fastest team in the world, the first women 4x400 relay team to represent The Bahamas at the Olympics and also The Bahamas’ national record holders.
To be the best, you have to compete with the best and we did that. We are even hungrier for more success in the near future. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil” Give God all the praise.
Thank you to my family, my friends, my coach, Team Bahamas administrative team and doctors and supporters for all the love and encouragement.
We love you all and don't think we didn't hear you guys cheering us on. We truly appreciated it!!!”
