By Clayton Clarke

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: (Sunday, August, 21):  Chris Brown won his fourth Olympic medal when he anchored Bahamas to bronze in the men’s 4x400m finals on the penultimate day of Athletics last night. His tally (all in the 4x400m event) now includes one gold (2012), one silver (2008) two bronze (2000, 2016). He now holds the record as the Bahamian with the most Olympic medals.  Before Rio, he was tied with Pauline Davis Thompson and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie with three. Davis-Thompson won gold in the 200m and 4x100m (2000) and silver in the 4x100m (1996). Ferguson-McKenzie’s trio: gold-4x100m (2000), silver-4x100m (1996) and bronze (200m-2004).
Brown narrowly missed on more medal when he was fourth in the men’s 400m finals in 2008 and 2012 and part of the team which finished sixth in 2004.
He is also the oldest medallist in the 4x400m event at 37 years, eclipsing the previous age he set four years ago in London when he led the team to gold. He is also the oldest champion (4x400m) and is the only man to compete in five 4x400m finals (2000-2016).
In his illustrious career, the former national 400m record holder is only one of two men who have won six medals at the World Indoor championships. (His tally - one gold, two silver and three bronze). The other man is the world high jump record holder Javier Sotomayor of Cuba. He is the lone man to win five medals in the 400m (gold-2010, silver-2014, bronze-2006, 2008 and 2012).
Brown earned his sixth medal (silver -men’s 4x400m) in 2016. He is the oldest man to win gold in the indoor 400m event at 31 years in 2010. Four years later at 35 years, he became the oldest medallist, finalist and competitor. The Eleuthera islander also has an impressive record at the World Outdoor championships with four medals, all in the 4x400m (one gold-2001, two silver-2005, 2007 and one bronze-2003). He captured double gold (400m/4x400m) at the 2007 Pan American Games and led Bahamas to back to back victories in the 4x400m relays at the 2003 and 2005 CAC Senior Championships.
Although he has not competed in the 800m since his teenage days, he is still the national record holder in the event when he clocked 1:49.54 seconds at the 1998 CAC Games, two months short of his 20th birthday.
Chris ‘The Fireman’ Brown proves he is surely ‘the man.’
