By Clayton Clarke

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland:(Friday, July, 22): Sasha Wells and Charisma Taylor will make their World junior debut when they line up in the heats of the women’s 100m hurdles at 3:00am (Eastern Caribbean time/9:30am Poland time) at the 16th IAAF World U20 Track and Field Championships at the Zawisza Stadium on Friday morning.
Wells will run from lane 5 of heat one while Taylor is listed in lane 7 of heat five. Both will be seeking to finish the top three to be assured of a lane in the semifinals set for Saturday (11:15am). Wells may have to go faster than her 13.86 personal best to advance as four of eight entrants have faster bps. Taylor (13.88) is the sixth quickest in her heat.
Speaking to Bahamas Athletics earlier in the week, Wells said she wants to remain focused and accomplish the goals she set coming to Poland. Taylor added that she is eager to compete and is feeling confident.  Wells and Taylor will be seeking to become the third and fourth Bahamian ladies to advance to the semi-finals at the World Under 20 level following Krystal Bodie (2008) and Devynne Charlton (2014). Bodie went on to place seventh in the 2008 finals.
Jenae Ambrose is among the starters in the women’s 200m heats set for 6:00am. She will run out of lane 8 of heat four. She is the second quickest listed in her race.  Devine Parker is the other local entrant but after she withdrew from the 100m heats on Wednesday complaining of soreness in her leg, there is some uncertainty over her participation. She is listed to compete in heat three from lane four. The first four in each heat and next four fastest on time advances to the semifinals later in the day. Both will be seeking to extend The Bahamas’ record of producing at least one semi-finalist in the event since the 2004 edition in Grosetto Italy.
The Bahamas is not listed to compete in the men’s and women’s 4x100m heats. However, Team Bahamas arrived in Poland with teams to compete in both events.
After three days of action, The Bahamas lies 34th on the points table following Serena Brown’s fourth place finish in the women’s discus finals. The 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships continue until Sunday July 24. Bahamas is represented by 13 athletes. SCHEDULE-Day Four (July 22)
